About this fine art print
In my work as an illustrator, I’ve always chosen giclée fine art paper, my favourite printing technique. It combines rich colours and beautiful paper texture with exceptional quality and professionalism. Colour vibrancy is very important to me, and giclée printing is far superior to standard inkjet printing.
My inspiration
This illustration is part of an extensive project developed during my MA studies at Central Saint Martins. Atlas of Communism represents a collaborative project between myself and the residents of Suceava, compiling personal experiences, memories, and narratives from citizens who lived under Communism. This specific illustration reflects my grandmother’s recollection of the challenge in acquiring bananas at the local store. When bananas were available, they were typically unripe and green, so they were meticulously wrapped in newspaper and stored in a drawer to ripen over time. This narrative serves as a poignant symbol of the hardships faced in obtaining food during the Romanian government’s rationing system, which restricted access to essential items such as bread, meat, milk, oil, and sugar.
