A FOOTLOOSE MISCELLANY FOR SOCK LOVERS AND WEARERS
Chronicle Books commisioned me to illustrate the fun and amusing book , Socks, A Footloose Miscellany for Sock Lovers and Wearers written by Wendi Aarons, a humor writer based in Austin, Texas. Based on the author’s quirky text I illustrated more than 45 different types of socks that represent different types of people who wear them.
One important aspect of this particular project was to create a range of gender neutral and age agnostic socks illustrations, so it can appeal to a broad range of sock wearers and collectors.
Illustrations & process:
As an artist who loves to draw detailed illustrations, my creative process is highly personal and unique, reflecting my distinct style. I take great care to ensure that my illustrations accurately represent the book's narrative and capture the essence of the author's text.
Sketching is vital to my creative process, allowing me to refine my ideas and explore various creative directions before settling on a final design. This process stage is precious as it enables me to experiment with different textures, shapes, and colour schemes for a diverse range of socks featured throughout the book to find the perfect balance for the illustration.
